This week I am thrilled to have Author Megan Short on my blog for an author spotlight!

Megan Short is an Australian author of inspirational romantic suspense novels. She grew up in New Zealand where her favorite activity was watching bumblebees and day dreaming. A screenwriter by trade, she has writing qualifications from UCLA and has won some screenwriting awards. Megan currently lives in Melbourne and loves learning new skills and meeting new people, many of which make their way into her stories! She still spends too much time day dreaming and is a recovering chocoholic.

First off, welcome to my blog. It’s so great to have you here!

Thanks for having me!

What first sparked your passion for storytelling, and how has your journey as a writer evolved over time?

I have always loved telling stories. I enjoyed creative writing at school and was encouraged into screenwriting when I won a competition. From there I continued to write and studied screenwriting at UCLA. After a long journey and many screenplays, I decided it was time to write romance novels.

What unique aspects of your faith influence your storytelling style or the themes you explore?

I am a relatively new Christian, and my writing is guided by God. My writing is one way God is using to help me to get to know Him.

Do you have a favorite Bible verse or passage that has guided your writing or life journey?

Not really. Each story has its own guiding verse.

Who are some of your favorite Christian authors, and how have they influenced your work?

There are way more than this, but to narrow it down… I enjoy Karen Kingsbury for the heart in her romance novels, George MacDonald for his originality and spirituality, and more recently Ryan Steck because finally there is a Christian alternative to Jack Reacher. Everything I read influences my work.

If you could collaborate with any Christian author, living or deceased, who would it be and why?

R.C. Sproul. While he is rightly known for his theology, he’s actually written some fiction too. I would love to learn more from him and believe he would be an amazing mentor…..

What’s your favorite scene or moment in the book, and why does it hold special meaning for you?

I can’t tell you because it’s too big of a spoiler, sorry!

Are there any surprising lessons or revelations you discovered about yourself or your faith through the writing process?

Every book I’ve written has helped me to understand God and His purposes a little more. It’s quite amazing to watch how God has led me through this. In particular, guiding me to particular Bible studies that fit together with what I’m writing at the time in a way that can only be explained in hindsight.

How do you incorporate prayer or spiritual reflection into your writing routine?

I mostly pray that God will help me to glorify Him in my work.

What do you enjoy most about connecting with readers, and what feedback has resonated deeply with you?

I have had some really lovely compliments about my book so far, but the most touching have been those who are struggling and were simply able to get a little bit of relief and enjoyment from my book.

Have you seen your book make an impact in someone’s life, and can you share that experience?

No, but I know God has a purpose for my book, and there’s a high likelihood I will never know that impact.

What’s one thing you wish readers knew about the process of writing Christian fiction?

It is a team effort, relying heavily on the encouragement, prayers and support of other writers, the incredible talent of my editors, and God’s grace.

How do you celebrate the completion of a book, and what does that milestone mean to you?

I’m not very good at celebrating. I usually give a sigh of relief and start on the next one!

If someone were to adapt your book into a movie, what would be your dream casting for the main characters?

You sound like my editor during the cover art stage, haha. Sorry, I still have no idea!

What advice would you give to aspiring authors who are just starting out?

Write every day. For Christian writers: keep in close communication with God so that you continue to serve Him alone.

Lastly, before you go…Can you talk about any upcoming projects or books you’re working on?

I’m currently editing my third book which is due out mid-2026. It’s also set in Cordova, Alaska with characters from Alaskan Police Protector and Trapped on the Alaskan Glacier (due out late-January 2026). Now for her book, Alaskan Police Protector, coming July 1st.

To save a child,

he has to risk his own life.

When a minivan slides off the road into an icy lake, Officer Samuel Miller narrowly rescues a woman and child from certain death. Only, Rachel Harding insists the crash is no accident—it’s eerily similar to how her sister and brother-in-law recently died. As the unexplained attacks escalate, Samuel is determined to protect Rachel and her orphaned niece at all costs. But when they make a shocking discovery, their investigation becomes even more dangerous, and survival may be impossible.

And Megan has teased us with a snippet from her story:

“What’s going on?”

Rachel’s panicked voice shocked Samuel into action. He turned the plane’s ignition off and on again, to no avail.

He didn’t have much control of the rudder. He tried to push the nose down to regain some elevator authority, but the plane didn’t cooperate. Is this an engine fault or sabotage? Didn’t matter now.

They lost altitude, and the rough surface of the ocean rose to meet them. Out of options, he was committed to landing.

“We’re going to hit the water hard. You remember how to deploy your life jacket?”

Rachel gasped. “Yes.”

“Remember what I said about emergency landing?”

“Headphones, harness, hatch.” The words came out in rapid fire, and he felt grateful they’d gone through the safety procedures so thoroughly.

“That’s right. Just do as I say. I’ll keep you safe.” No choice, he couldn’t lose her.

They plummeted toward the ocean. Too fast. If the wing hit the water, the plane could spin and capsize.

“Brace for impact!”

Rachel’s arms flew to cover her head just as they hit the water.
