This week I am super excited to have Elle E. Kay on my blog for an author spotlight!

Elle E. Kay is an Angel Award-winning Christian fiction author known for her gripping suspense and engaging romance novels. She lives on a hobby farm in Central Pennsylvania with her husband, three dogs, and a variety of farm animals. A devoted follower of Christ, Elle is actively involved in her church's youth ministry and shares her love of Jesus through music.

Her writing journey began with non-fiction, poetry, and children's books before she made her Christian fiction debut in 2016. Since then, she has written 24 novels in the genre.

First off, welcome to my blog. It’s so great to have you here!

It’s great to be here. Thanks for having me.

Is there anything you want to share before we dive into the questions?

Just that I’m grateful for the opportunity to be featured. I appreciate you having me.

What first sparked your passion for storytelling, and how has your journey as a writer evolved over time?

My first-grade teacher encouraged my love of storytelling, and that early encouragement stuck with me. Even though I went into the legal field, I never lost my love for the written word. And now writing has become both my career and my passion.

What unique aspects of your faith influence your storytelling style or the themes you explore?

I write from a biblical worldview, so faith naturally weaves its way into every story. My characters wrestle with real-life struggles, but they also encounter grace, redemption, and the faithfulness of God—because that’s what I’ve experienced in my own life.

Do you have a favorite Bible verse or passage that has guided your writing or life journey?

Matthew 11:28–30 has always spoken to me. When I feel tired or overwhelmed, those verses remind me that I don’t have to carry it all on my own. The Lord is always there to help me, and that truth gives me peace, even during the toughest seasons.

Who are some of your favorite Christian authors, and how have they influenced your work?

I enjoy reading Terri Blackstock, Colleen Coble, Susan May Warren, and Robin Patchen. I could keep going, but those are a few standouts. While I believe my writing has its own voice, their books taught me how suspense and faith can coexist in incredible stories showing God’s love shining through intense struggles with darkness.

If you could collaborate with any Christian author, living or deceased, who would it be and why?

That’s a hard one. Frank Peretti comes to mind. His exploration of spiritual warfare in This Present Darkness had a lasting impact on me. I would love to write something that resonates with readers the way that one did for me. Hannah Hurnard, the author of Hinds’ Feet on High Places, would be a close second.

What’s your favorite scene or moment in the book, and why does it hold special meaning for you?

There’s a scene where Sadie makes a poor decision and expects Craig to scold her for it. Instead, he responds with grace and understanding. That moment reminds me of God’s character. He’s just and forgiving, and He doesn’t keep throwing our past mistakes back at us. That quiet strength in Craig reflects the kind of love God extends to us.

Are there any surprising lessons or revelations you discovered about yourself or your faith through the writing process?

I've learned that when I keep God at the center of the writing process, the words flow more naturally, and I’m more at peace. I feel calmer, more focused, and enjoy the writing more. It’s a good reminder that I don’t have to do this in my own strength.

How do you incorporate prayer or spiritual reflection into your writing routine?

I start the day with devotional time and end it by listening to the Bible. That helps me stay grounded. When I sit down to write, I like to pray first, though I don’t always remember. When I forget, it usually shows. Thankfully, God doesn’t abandon me during the editing process either.

What do you enjoy most about connecting with readers, and what feedback has resonated deeply with you?

It touches me when readers say my stories impacted them in a meaningful way. Some have mentioned that they appreciate seeing my characters live out their faith. Knowing the spiritual elements are coming through clearly is a huge blessing.

Have you seen your book make an impact in someone’s life, and can you share that experience?

I’ve heard from family and friends of a couple of readers who spent their final days on earth reading my books. It was deeply moving to know the stories brought them comfort as they prepared to step into Glory. That’s something I’ll never forget.

What’s one thing you wish readers knew about the process of writing Christian fiction?

Writers pour so much of themselves into every story. If someone really wants to know me, reading my books is a good place to start. My heart is in every one.

How do you celebrate the completion of a book, and what does that milestone mean to you?

I don’t do much to celebrate. Usually, I pause for a moment, smile to myself, and then start thinking about the next project.

If someone were to adapt your book into a movie, what would be your dream casting for the main characters?

I don’t follow many celebrities, but I used to watch a lot of Hallmark movies. I’ve always liked Candace Cameron Bure and Danica McKellar. They’d make great heroines. For the heroes, I could see Trevor Donovan or David A. R. White in those roles.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors who are just starting out?

Don’t measure your success by your bank account. Touching a reader’s heart or drawing someone closer to Christ has far more eternal value. That’s the kind of success that matters most.

Lastly, before you go…Can you talk about any upcoming projects or books you’re working on?

I have another new release coming out in about a month. It’s called Project Sentinel, and it’s the culmination of a couple of years’ work. The story centers around a CIA Officer and a former analyst with amnesia trying to stop a rogue CIA faction that hijacked an AI surveillance system for their own nefarious purposes. I’m excited to finally release it.

Now for her book, Midnight Offensive, that released TODAY.

She was just looking for a quiet night out. He was hunting a bioterrorist. Neither expected to face a deadly threat—together.

ER nurse Sadie Kline can’t shake the feeling that something is off about the man who comes into her ER late one night. But she brushes it off—until a blind date with her brother’s best friend, Craig Malone, leads to something far more complicated than old feelings and second chances.

Craig, now a Homeland Security agent, is tracking a stolen biological weapon when Sadie’s unsettling experience places her on his radar. She may hold the key to identifying a dangerous suspect, and when her family is targeted, protecting her becomes more than just part of the job.

As danger escalates and secrets unravel, Craig and Sadie must work together to stop a biological attack. But in a world of shifting loyalties and silent threats, trusting each other might be the most dangerous move of all.

And Paula has teased us with a snippet from her book:

Sadie moved along to a basement window, prepared to wrap the shirt around her hand for protection, but to her surprise and relief, the jalousie window was tilted out. Her hands, numb from the cold, cramped up as she slid the pieces of glass out one at a time and set them aside.

Climbing through, she scraped her side against the frame and lowered herself, holding on by her fingertips. Her grip on the sill grew tenuous. She estimated the desk beneath her seemed about six inches from the bottom of her feet. Drawing in one last steadying breath, she let herself drop. A loud clang rang through the air as her feet made contact with the old metal desk, and the impact sent a jolt through her body.

If anyone was nearby, they’d have heard her. After scrambling off the desk, she flew to the door and peered down the hall. When she didn’t spot anyone, she hurried into the corridor, her footsteps echoing.

A cough had her ducking into an alcove. She wasn’t alone.
